It has been cold and snowy outside, which makes it really tempting to hide out at home on the weekend. Instead, you can venture out and enjoy a couple of exciting Harlem Globetrotters games this February! The Globetrotters have partnered with the Red Cross through the team’s Great Assist initiative in order to help locals recover from disasters, so when you are out enjoying the games, you will also be supporting the vital work of the American Red Cross.
The Harlem Globetrotters, also known globally as the Ambassadors of Goodwill, launched
the Great Assist initiative in 2015 in order to spread 100 million smiles over the next decade through service and sportsmanship. For the first year of their two year partnership with the Red Cross, the Globetrotters will join in the Red Cross’s mission to install one million smoke alarms by October, 2017. Nearly, ten thousand alarms have already been installed throughout Connecticut.
Home fires are some of the most common disasters to which the Red Cross responds. Every day, the Connecticut and Rhode Island region responds to about two home fires. In 2016 alone, the region responded to more than 800 disasters.
Strap on your winter boots and come out to these games in support of the Red Cross:
